Adventure Algorithms
A downloadable game
Adventure Algorithms (AA for short) is a ruleset for tabletop roleplaying games, designed for players and gamemasters who enjoy tactical combat, but balk at the clumsiness of rules-heavy titans of industry. AA features three fast-paced minigames built around a common principle of rolling a pool of dice then leaving them on the table to use as a "resource" for various moves and actions.
On the non-combat side, these mini-games are applicable to situations such as exploration, infiltration, information gathering, repairs/crafting, and more. This edition also presents multiple options for expanding play.
Adventure Algorithms was created by Dmitri Kubasov (aka Murphy) of Aramis roleplaying club. It began in 2010 as a rules hack for Risus: the Anything RPG, but later on became its own game with less focus on comedy.
The ruleset itself is an 8-page PDF, mostly no-frills, written for people who are already familiar with the concept of a tabletop roleplaying game. AA was primarily playtested in our club with fantasy (based on the wonderful Ermarian setting), and hard sci-fi (based on Traveller). It is suitable for any genre, though it works best with a healthy mix of combat, exploration, and base-building. We at Aramis club hope you enjoy your campaigns as much as we did ours.
